226/365 - New House

226/365 - New House

(I wouldn't have chosen this photo for Project 365, but apparently I didn't take many photos this day. ...Really need to get caught up on this thing before it's over!)

The new house still wasn't finished at this point, even on the outside. There was painting to be done and screens to be put up, for instance.

Those two porches look tempting, don't they? There just needs to be a quilt draped casually over the railing... and a rocking chair with a good book waiting in the seat.  (And probably a cold drink, this time of year...)

218/365 - New Neighbors

218/365 - New Neighbors

My parents' new house is still not quite finished, but it's further along than it was when I took this photo (May 20th), and it's only a matter of days/weeks, now! Every now and then, we walk over to have a look at the progress, though we go less often now that all the big stuff is done (and the heat, humidity, and weeds of summer make it less pleasant to walk).

(This is the back of the house, by the way.)

Looking up at my parents' new house. . .

(They're making progress on it. At this point, they still hadn't started bricking it, though.)

164/365 - Swedish Meatballs

164/365 - Swedish Meatballs

Donald made some Swedish meatballs using a variation on a recipe from Ingela.

Yum!

156/365 - Construction Abstract

I don't remember what these are called, but they're the support system for the second floor of my parents' new house.

150/365 - Taking in the View

150/365 - Taking in the View

My maternal grandparents had everyone who could make it over for lunch to see our visitors from Sweden. (My paternal grandmother was there, too.)

Afterward, we went to look at the progress on the new house. Here we are taking in the view from the second floor.

141/365 - First Try at HDR. . .

141/365 - First Try at HDR. . .

So far, I'm not blown away, nor will I be blowing away others with HDR (high dynamic range) photos of this caliber.  No "mad HDR skillz" here.  Or in other words, there's still a lot of room for improvement.

Oh well, I shouldn't expect to be do a wonderful job on my very first try, I guess.  At least I'm trying something new.  :o)

129/365 - Hard at Work

129/365 - Hard at Work

Here are Mom and Dad working to level out the crawlspace before it's enclosed.

They worked on it Saturday morning and afternoon. We had a birthday lunch at Granny and Grandpa L.'s that day, and afterward, several went out to help a while with the leveling.

(It was a beautiful, warm afternoon-- and then an honest-to-goodness dirt devil came right across us. Exciting!)

127/365 - New Light Fixture

127/365 - New Light Fixture

Donald put up our new light fixture in the master bath. I've never really liked the over-sink fixtures that came with our house, so it's nice to finally get something different. This fixture has a more classic, traditional style than the old one, which was essentially a brass plate with four round bulbs just sticking out of it. (Yuck.)

We've also repainted that room, and once I get around to finishing painting the cabinetry, there'll be before & after photos to post. . .

123/365 - Preparing to Paint

123/365 - Preparing to Paint

Yesterday, we put up the first coat of our new color ("Oatbran") for our bathroom.

The old color was never quite what I'd hoped it would be, and for the price of a gallon of paint (and some time and effort), it was worth making a switch. The new color looks great already, though it still needs a second coat.

(It really needed some touching up, anyway-- especially after a little damage from the storm last March, when we had those leaks in our roof. . .)

110/365 - Fixing Supper

110/365 - Fixing Supper

"Fixing" supper (aka cooking or making supper) is something that happens on a regular basis around here, since we both like to eat an evening meal. (I've never understood how a healthy person could willingly skip any meal. It's not natural. (g))
